The three-day event will feature practice sessions on Thursday, qualifying on Friday morning, and a qualifying race Friday evening. The main 30-minute IMSA Classic feature race takes place Saturday morning before the Rolex 24.
Competitors and their historic race cars will be displayed in a public tent in the DIS Rolex 24 Midway, with additional vehicles showcased in the DIS FanZone. This marks the first collaboration between Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) and IMSA at a WeatherTech Championship race weekend since IMSA's acquisition of HSR in 2022.
IMSA President John Doonan emphasized that while demonstration events have celebrated the Rolex 24's history before, this will be the first actual race featuring historic IMSA competition cars during the weekend.
Participation is limited, with invitations being distributed to HSR members and notable vintage racing teams. A selection committee will review all applications to determine the final lineup for the inaugural event.
Future IMSA Classic events will highlight different periods of IMSA's racing history at each annual Rolex 24. This initiative joins other recent HSR developments, including the HSR Prototype Challenge for retired LMP3 cars and the HSR NASCAR Classic Presented by Petty's Garage for historic stock cars.
