Jordan's impact on Formula 1 was transformative. His team, Jordan Grand Prix, launched the careers of numerous champions, including Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill. Known for their rock and roll image, Jordan Grand Prix consistently outperformed expectations, participating in 250 races and securing four grand prix victories before its 2005 sale.
Born in Dublin, Jordan's motorsport journey began unexpectedly during a 1970 bank strike when he discovered go-karting in Jersey. His racing career flourished, winning the Irish karting championship in 1971 before progressing through Formula Ford and Formula 3.
In 1980, he founded Eddie Jordan Racing at Silverstone, achieving success with drivers like Martin Brundle and Jean Alesi. The team's entry into Formula 1 in 1991 with the Jordan 191 marked a significant milestone, finishing fifth in the constructors' championship that year.
Jordan Grand Prix's greatest achievements included a memorable one-two finish at the 1998 Belgian Grand Prix and a third-place finish in the 1999 constructors' championship. The team, now known as Aston Martin, continues to compete in Formula 1.
Post-team ownership, Jordan remained influential in motorsport as a manager and broadcaster, appearing on BBC, Channel 4, and "Top Gear." He co-hosted the "Formula For Success" podcast with David Coulthard until his health declined. Jordan had revealed his battle with bladder and prostate cancer in December 2024, which had spread to his pelvis and spine.
His legacy in Formula 1 endures through the numerous careers he launched and his memorable contributions to the sport's culture and development.
