The first-ever Brawn GP Formula 1 car (chassis BGP 001/01) will be auctioned at Bonham's Miami Grand Prix sale this May, marking a historic moment for F1 collectors.

This chassis, one of only three Brawn GP cars ever built, was primarily driven by Rubens Barrichello during the 2009 season. Under his control, it secured two victories (European GP in Valencia and Italian GP at Monza) and four additional podium finishes.

The car represents one of F1's greatest underdog stories. After Honda's withdrawal from F1, the team emerged through a management buyout led by Ross Brawn. Despite operating on a modest budget, they dominated the 2009 season, winning both championships with eight victories in 17 races.

Following the 2009 season, the car was transferred to Jenson Button's ownership through a contractual clause after a High Court dispute. It remained in his possession until 2024.

The other two Brawn GP chassis locations are:

  • Chassis 001/02 (Button's championship-winning car): Owned by Ross Brawn, fully operational
  • Chassis 001/03: On loan to the Silverstone Museum from Mercedes

This sale follows recent record-breaking F1 car auctions:

  • 1954-55 Mercedes W196R Stromlinienwagen: $53.9 million
  • 1954 Mercedes W196R: $29.6 million
  • 2013 Mercedes F1 W04 (Hamilton's first Mercedes win): $18.8 million

The Brawn GP car's auction represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Formula 1 history that embodies one of the sport's most remarkable success stories.
