Three Rookies Make Their Mark in Super DIRTcar Series: Johnson, Stone & Trautschold
Three rookie drivers - Daniel Johnson, Justin Stone, and Mike Trautschold - made significant strides in their debut Super DIRTcar Series season in 2024, each facing unique challenges and learning experiences.

Two dirt track racers competing
For Trautschold, adapting to Hoosier tires from American Racer Tires proved to be the biggest challenge. He's now building experience and a notebook to improve future performance.
Stone showed the most promise among the rookies, leading half of the King of the North race at Autodrome Drummond before a flat tire ended his shot at victory. The near-win boosted his confidence for the 2025 season.
Daniel Johnson's rookie season was especially memorable as he competed alongside his father, three-time Series champion Danny Johnson. The experience became even more significant when Daniel became a father himself during Super DIRT Week 52.
Support systems proved crucial for all three drivers:
- Stone benefited from traveling with his father Todd, sharing experiences despite their different driving styles
- Trautschold received valuable guidance from fellow rookie Alex Payne and Payne's father Eldon, particularly regarding Hoosier tire racing
- Johnson cherished racing alongside his father, learning from his extensive experience
Looking ahead to 2025, the drivers plan to build on their rookie experience:
- Johnson emphasizes maintaining a positive attitude
- Stone aims to capitalize on his demonstrated speed
- Trautschold will continue expanding his technical knowledge
The 2025 Super DIRTcar Series begins at Volusia Speedway Park during Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, February 12-15. Fans can watch all races live on DIRTVision.
