Wayne Johnson, former sprint car driver turned crew chief for TwoC Racing, is heading back to the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series in 2025. After an injury ended his driving career early last year, Johnson successfully transitioned to crew chief, earning the Lee Maier Crew Chief of the Year award in the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS).

During the 2024 season, Johnson led TwoC Racing to multiple victories in ASCS competition, including wins with drivers Seth Bergman and Hank Davis. The team nearly secured the Owner's championship, demonstrating Johnson's natural ability in his new role.

For 2025, TwoC Racing has upgraded to 410 engines and hired Cole Macedo as their driver for a full-time World of Outlaws campaign. The team showed early promise when Macedo and Johnson collaborated at Knoxville Raceway, advancing from 16th to 5th place.

Johnson, the 2020 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year, now aims to guide Macedo to the same honor from the pit box. The team's crew includes Johnson's nephew Bud as car chief and Casey Walters as tire specialist.

The 2025 World of Outlaws season begins at Volusia Speedway Park's Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals on February 5-8. Johnson's transition from driver to crew chief exemplifies his dedication to sprint car racing and his ability to succeed in multiple roles within the sport.

The former driver remains humble about his new position, saying, "If you're a Sprint Car guy, you always want to be at the World of Outlaws level because they're the best. If you're in this sport, that's where you want to be."
