Stone Family Takes on UMP Mods Before Super DIRTcar Series at Volusia

Father-son duo Todd and Justin Stone from Middlebury, VT, plan to alternate driving nights in their UMP Modified. During initial testing at Golden Isles Speedway, they discovered significant differences between UMP Modifieds and their familiar Big Block cars. Todd noted that UMP Modifieds require maintaining momentum through corners, contrary to Big Block driving techniques.
While Todd brings experience from Florida Speedweeks racing at New Smyrna Speedway, including two wins in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, this marks their first UMP Modified venture. The Stones maintain a Florida shop, making February their traditional month for racing and relaxation.
For Justin, this early racing opportunity provides valuable track time before the Super DIRTcar Series races at Volusia (February 12-15). Despite having only six Features at the track, Justin remains optimistic about the learning experience ahead.
Todd, serving as both critic and fan, expresses enthusiasm about watching his son's progression in the sport. "I love being able to give him the opportunity to do this," he remarked, highlighting their strong father-son racing bond.
The Stone family's participation adds another layer of excitement to the already anticipated DIRTcar Nationals, blending family tradition with competitive racing at one of dirt track racing's premier events.
