Honda Stars Dominate Suzuka Super Formula Test as Fraga Emerges as Top Rookie

Honda factory drivers dominated the two-day Super Formula Championship winter test at Suzuka Circuit, leading all four test sessions. Dandelion Racing's Tadasuke Makino set the fastest overall time of 1m35.597s in the No. 5 Dallara SF23-Honda, followed by teammate Kakunoshin Ohta.

Honda confirmed five drivers for their 2025 Super Formula lineup:

  • Makino and Ohta returning to Dandelion Racing
  • Tomoki Nojiri and Ayumu Iwasa staying with Team Mugen
  • Ren Sato continuing with Nakajima Racing

Among Toyota-powered drivers, Cerumo-INGING's Sena Sakaguchi was fastest, posting 1m35.967s for third place overall. Sacha Fenestraz marked his return to Super Formula with TOM'S Toyota, finishing 10th fastest.

Igor Fraga led all rookie sessions in the No. 64 Nakajima Racing Honda, posting 1m36.252s for seventh overall. He's the leading candidate to replace retiring three-time champion Naoki Yamamoto.

Other notable rookie performances:

  • Seita Nonaka (KCMG Toyota) - 11th
  • Syun Koide (B-Max Racing Honda) - 12th
  • Oliver Rasmussen (Team Impul Toyota) - 13th

W Series alumni Miki Koyama impressed in her first test with KCMG Toyota, completing 62 laps with a best time of 1m38.078s. She aims to become the fifth woman to race in the series.

The final day of testing will feature rookies exclusively, with Haas F1 Team's Oliver Bearman and Williams Racing Academy driver Zak O'Sullivan scheduled to participate.
