A federal court has granted 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports a preliminary injunction for the 2025 NASCAR season, allowing them to compete as charter teams and purchase charters from Stewart-Haas Racing.

U.S. District Court Judge Kenneth D. Bell issued the ruling without a hearing, after an initial request was denied in November by a different judge. The injunction enables both teams to operate under standard charter terms, except for the release clause.

Key points of the ruling:

  • Teams can compete as charter teams for 2025
  • NASCAR cannot block charter purchases from Stewart-Haas Racing
  • Both teams are expanding to three full-time cars
  • Teams continue their antitrust case against NASCAR

The urgency for this ruling was driven by multiple factors:

  • Tyler Reddick's contract breach concerns regarding chartered car requirements
  • Similar contractual issues with Riley Herbst and Noah Gragson
  • Driver uncertainty, including Bubba Wallace and Corey Heim needing immediate answers
  • Sponsor concerns from Monster Energy and Love's Travel Stops about 2025 obligations

Judge Bell concluded that the teams demonstrated "the likelihood of irreparable harm" sufficient to warrant the preliminary injunction. This ruling ensures team stability for the 2025 season while the broader antitrust case continues.
