Team Penske Racing president Tim Cindric has decided to step back from overseeing multiple racing programs to focus solely on leading the organization's three-car IndyCar effort. This decision marks a return to his roots, where he began with Penske in 1999 as president of the IndyCar team.

After 25 years of managing multiple racing programs across IMSA, IndyCar, NASCAR, and even Australian Supercars, Cindric, who turns 57 in April, felt it was time to find better work-life balance. The decision wasn't prompted by any negative circumstances but rather a desire to experience life beyond racing.

In his conversation with Roger Penske, Cindric expressed his wish to step back while maintaining his role with the IndyCar program, where he holds a minority ownership stake. He will continue as head coach and strategist for Josef Newgarden's No. 2 Chevy team and maintain oversight of Penske's historic race car collection and archives.

The timing of this decision follows significant achievements, including:

  • Championships in IMSA and NASCAR in the previous year
  • Back-to-back Indianapolis 500 victories
  • Successfully building strong leadership teams across all racing programs

Cindric will now focus on the more manageable 17-20 weekend IndyCar schedule, allowing him to pursue other interests and attend events like Amelia Island or Goodwood that were previously impossible due to his demanding schedule.

This transition maintains continuity in Team Penske's IndyCar operations while allowing Cindric to achieve better balance in his professional and personal life after decades of non-stop racing commitments.
