The GM works team, established in partnership with TWG Global, evolved from the initial Andretti Cadillac project approved by the FIA in 2023. After extensive negotiations with Formula One Management (FOM), which sought guarantees about GM's commitment to building its own power unit, the project received preliminary approval in November 2024.
TWG Motorsports will operate the team, which has already hired over 300 employees across multiple facilities:
- Indianapolis
- Charlotte
- Warren (United States)
- Silverstone (UK)
These teams are currently working on:
- Aerodynamics
- Chassis development
- Component development
- Software
- Vehicle dynamics simulation
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali emphasized the importance of GM's commitment to bringing Cadillac to Formula 1, noting it demonstrates the sport's evolution. FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who championed grid expansion since 2022, called it a "transformative moment" that aligns with new 2026 regulations.
TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss confirmed they're accelerating efforts to prepare for the 2026 entry, focusing on facility expansion, technology development, and talent acquisition. The team will participate in discussions for the new Concorde Agreement, which will govern commercial relationships from 2026 onward.
