Williams F1's Albon Cautions Against High Expectations for Chinese GP
Alex Albon expects a more challenging race for Williams at the Chinese Grand Prix, following his impressive fifth-place finish in Australia's wet and windy conditions.

Despite Williams' strong performance in Melbourne, where Albon qualified sixth and secured 10 points—nearly matching his entire 2024 total—he remains cautious about expecting similar results throughout the season. The Australian race, marked by challenging weather conditions, demonstrated Williams' improved capabilities but also highlighted their continuing vulnerabilities.
"It was one of those really awkward races where it never felt comfortable," Albon reflected, emphasizing that success came from avoiding mistakes rather than outright performance advantage. The team's excellent strategy execution and early-season preparation proved crucial in capitalizing on conditions and competing teams' initial adjustments.
Looking ahead to China's Sprint event, Albon anticipates less competitive performance at the Shanghai International Circuit. The track's characteristics, including long corners and exposure to wind—historically challenging areas for Williams—may prove problematic. However, recent track resurfacing could alter the racing dynamics compared to previous years.
The Thai-British driver notes that while Williams has made significant improvements in handling long corners, the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix will serve as a crucial test of their progress. "China will be a telltale sign if we're going to be better or not," Albon states, acknowledging that the team is still learning about their car's strengths and weaknesses in different conditions.
Albon expects Williams to regain competitiveness at Suzuka but maintains realistic expectations for the challenging races ahead.
