Chase Briscoe is using a two-day Goodyear tire test at Charlotte Motor Speedway to adapt his driving style to his new Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

As the Toyota representative at the test, Briscoe acknowledges that JGR cars handle significantly differently from his previous vehicles. This testing opportunity allows him to acclimate to the car's unique characteristics while Goodyear evaluates different tire compounds for intermediate tracks.

The transition marks Briscoe's first time driving something other than a Ford in NASCAR's national series since his 2017 debut in the Craftsman Truck Series. After four seasons with Stewart-Haas Racing in the Cup Series, he's had to substantially modify his driving approach to match JGR's setups.

Key adjustments include:

  • Maintaining higher minimum speeds through corners
  • Adapting throttle control techniques
  • Changing his overall approach to corner entry
  • Adjusting to the car's enhanced handling capabilities

"JGR has won way more races than I have, so I'm just trying to do what I can to put ourselves in the best position," Briscoe explains, noting that while natural driving instincts remain important, he's committed to adapting to JGR's proven methods.

The timing is crucial as NASCAR heads to Homestead-Miami Speedway, another intermediate track where Toyota drivers have claimed victory in three of the last five Cup Series races. Briscoe aims to improve upon his recent 17th-place finish at Las Vegas, where his team faced setbacks due to a loose wheel penalty that resulted in crew member suspensions for the next two races.
