Porsche's Da Costa Sets Blistering Pace in Mexico City Formula E Practice

Antonio Felix da Costa led opening practice for the Mexico City E-Prix, setting a new lap record of 1m 10.855s in the GEN3 Evo car at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. The Porsche driver topped the timesheets in mostly dry conditions, though light rain was reported during the 40-minute session.

NEOM McLaren's Taylor Barnard finished second, just 0.091s behind, while Nissan's Oliver Rowland claimed third place, 0.031s further back. Both drivers made late improvements as the session concluded.

Key session highlights:

  • Da Costa's lap time smashed Jake Dennis' previous race lap record of 1m14.195s
  • Defending race winner Pascal Wehrlein was the highest-placed 300kW runner
  • Mitch Evans, who briefly led mid-session, finished fifth for Jaguar

Notable performances from the rest of the field included Dan Ticktum in 12th, Nico Mueller leading teammate Jake Dennis in 13th, and Nick Cassidy managing only 15th in the second Jaguar. The session concluded with Robin Frijns, David Beckmann (who contacted the wall at Peraltada), and Zane Maloney completing the field.
