Additional winners include Helio Meza, who claimed the $100,000 runner-up prize, and Ashlyn Speed, who won the $100,000 Mazda Women in Motorsport Initiative Scholarship.
The judges evaluated contestants based on multiple criteria:
- Lap times
- Personality
- Data interpretation abilities
- Application of coaching feedback
Harmon credits his success to his previous year's experience at the Shootout and time spent in MX-5 Cup cars throughout the season. "It's everything that me and my dad, my family, we've all worked for the last three years," Harmon expressed after his win.
Runner-up Helio Meza, a former Mazda Club Racing Factory Team member, impressed judges with his exceptional performance despite being new to the MX-5 Cup car. Ashlyn Speed, the Women in Motorsport scholarship recipient, will also receive additional support from Whelen Motorsports to enhance her racing career.
The 2025 Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by Michelin will commence at Daytona International Speedway from January 22-24, where all three scholarship winners will showcase their talents.
