NASCAR Reveals Format for Historic Cook Out Clash Return to Bowman Gray Stadium

The 2025 Cook Out Clash will mark NASCAR Cup Series' historic return to Bowman Gray Stadium for the first time since 1971. The exhibition event, scheduled for February 2, will feature 23 drivers competing in multiple stages.

Format Breakdown:

Practice and Heat Races:

  • Three practice groups with separate track sessions
  • Practice speeds determine heat race lineups
  • Four 25-lap heat races (green flag laps only)
  • Top 5 finishers from each heat advance to The Clash
  • No overtime for heat races

Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ):

  • 75 laps (green flag only)
  • Non-qualified drivers compete
  • Top 2 finishers advance to The Clash
  • No overtime option

Main Event - The Clash:

  • 200 laps with 23-driver field
  • Green flag laps only
  • Mandatory halfway break at Lap 100
  • Must finish under green
  • Final spot reserved for highest 2024 points finisher not yet qualified

Broadcasting Schedule:

  • Saturday, Feb. 1: Practice/qualifying and heat races on FS1
  • Sunday, Feb. 2: LCQ and The Clash

The event replaces the L.A. Coliseum version, where Denny Hamlin claimed victory in the final 2024 edition.
