Buck brings extensive motorsports experience to the role, having led Penske Racing cars for legendary drivers including Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, and Danny Sullivan. He succeeds Levi Jones, who departed three months ago, after a comprehensive search that included former IndyCar drivers and current team members.
"I am thrilled to return to my racing roots in IndyCar," Buck stated. "The developmental series is on the rise as it continues to advance talent to the premier open-wheel series in North America."
IndyCar president Jay Frye praised Buck's appointment: "With his vast motorsports experience, Richard is a tremendous fit for the series' leadership role, and we are excited to welcome him back into the IndyCar family."
Buck will officially begin his role on January 6, ahead of the 2024 season opener at St. Petersburg on March 2. The upcoming season features a 14-race calendar.
