NASCAR has issued a formal clarification regarding pit stop rules across all national series, specifically addressing when teams can use another team's pit stall for safety-related issues.

The clarification comes after Christopher Bell's team at Las Vegas Motor Speedway had a left-front wheel tightened in teammate Chase Briscoe's pit stall. While the safety-related service was permitted, Bell still received a penalty for pitting outside his designated stall.

Key points from NASCAR's clarification:

  • Teams can use another team's pit stall to address safety issues
  • A flag status penalty (restart at tail of field or pass-through) will be applied for pitting outside the assigned box
  • Competition adjustments in another team's stall may result in lap penalties

Approved safety-related services include:

  • Tightening loose wheel nuts or lug nuts
  • Removing fuel cans
  • Removing wedge wrenches
  • Removing jacks from under vehicles

This clarification emphasizes NASCAR's priority on safety, preferring teams address equipment issues on pit road rather than risk loose components on the track. No actual rule changes were implemented; this update merely clarifies existing regulations.
