Legacy Motor Club and Jimmie Johnson Set to Expand Beyond NASCAR Racing Footprint
Legacy Motor Club aims to expand beyond NASCAR under Jimmie Johnson's majority ownership and new investor Knighthead Capital Management, LLC.
"Our focus is NASCAR. That is the crown jewel, our nucleus, of everything we want to be," says Johnson, the seven-time Cup Series champion. "But I do feel there are other opportunities for expansion within motorsports, throughout NASCAR, in other divisions."

The team currently fields two full-time Toyota entries for Erik Jones and John Hunter Nemechek in the Cup Series. With Knighthead Capital's investment portfolio including HERTZ, JOTA Racing, Singer Vehicle Design, and Revology Cars, Legacy Motor Club is positioned to explore various automotive opportunities:
- Motorsports expansion across different racing series
- Experiential events at tracks nationwide
- Historic racing involvement
- Brand building through racing success
- Development of club membership and fan engagement
"There are many layers to the car space, and that's what I want Legacy Motor Club to evolve into over time," Johnson explains. The partnership with Knighthead Capital strengthens the team's ability to plan for future opportunities while maintaining their core NASCAR presence.
Johnson's personal experience in IndyCar and sports car racing, combined with Toyota's global racing presence, provides additional pathways for potential expansion as the organization looks to build its brand beyond traditional NASCAR competition.
