After his paternity leave, Buckner will transition to a new position as Senior Manager GM Motorsports Propulsion Program Team, overseeing GM's racing engine programs across IndyCar, NASCAR, IMSA GTP/WEC LMDh, and global GT3 racing with Corvette. He assumes this role following Russ O'Blenes' promotion to lead Cadillac's Formula 1 motor program.

Buckner's journey with GM began in 2010 in product development, working on the C7 Corvette. His IndyCar career started as an engine technician for Sebastien Bourdais at KVSH Racing, where they secured two victories in 2015. In 2018, he became Chevy's IndyCar program manager, leading the team to three consecutive Manufacturers' championships.

Andrew Schutter, currently Buckner's deputy, will step up as Chevy's new Competition and Engineering IndyCar Program Manager.

"The pressure is real to elevate every program and continue winning," Buckner said, expressing excitement about the new challenges ahead, particularly in sports car racing. While acknowledging he'll miss the IndyCar paddock after 10 years, he looks forward to maintaining involvement in a different capacity.
