Genesis has already confirmed its entry with the GMR-001 LMDh prototype in 2027, while McLaren and Ford are expected to join the series. IMSA is also working to accommodate Alpine's A424 entry, coinciding with their planned North American market expansion.
Key developments include:
- Two-year extension of current regulations through 2029
- Focus on maintaining stable platform for manufacturers
- Integration of torque sensors and common hybrid systems
- Emphasis on cost control and consistent rules
Regarding future regulations, Doonan emphasized that automaker feedback will guide powertrain evolution. Current hybrid systems remain relevant, supported by strong retail sales in the consumer market.
IMSA's methodical approach to manufacturer integration and regulatory stability aims to provide newcomers with adequate preparation time while maintaining competitive balance for existing teams.
This expansion reflects the series' commitment to remaining aligned with automotive industry trends while providing a stable platform for manufacturer participation in top-level sports car racing.
