Both Max Verstappen and Horner faced noticeable jeers from sections of the crowd, with the FIA's logo also receiving negative reactions during a tribute to event volunteers. While the FIA released a statement expressing disappointment at the "tribalist reaction," Horner maintains that such passionate displays shouldn't be condemned.
"Fans are the DNA of the sport," Horner explained, noting how F1's fanbase has evolved and diversified in recent years. He emphasized that competitive sports naturally create polarizing reactions, comparing the car launch to "launching your away strip in a home fans' stadium."
Horner expressed particular disappointment regarding the reception of four-time world champion Max Verstappen, attributing the response partly to the event's UK location and Verstappen's previous title battles with British drivers Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris. He suggested the reception would have been markedly different had the event been held in the Netherlands.
The Red Bull team principal maintained that varying fan reactions are inevitable across different global venues, reflecting the passionate nature of elite sports and their supporters.
