Genesis' Sports Car Journey Takes Shape as Star Drivers Join LMDh Program
Genesis, the South Korean luxury brand, is strategically preparing for its FIA WEC debut in 2026 with the GMR-001 LMDh prototype. The manufacturer has partnered with ORECA for chassis development and will use 2025 as a preparation year with IDEC Sport in the ELMS.

The team has made two significant driver signings:
Andre Lotterer (43):
- FIA WEC Hypercar Drivers' World Champion
- Joined after leaving Porsche
- Views Genesis as his final major career move
- Will contribute extensive LMP1 and Hypercar experience
- Based near team headquarters in Paul Ricard
Pipo Derani (31):
- Two-time IMSA champion
- Left Cadillac and Action Express mid-2024
- Seeking new challenges in WEC
- Focused on program development throughout 2025
The program's approach is pragmatic, leveraging ORECA's proven LMDh platform instead of developing a bespoke LMH chassis. This strategy, combined with current regulations, makes the program more feasible than previous-era LMP1 efforts.
Team principal Cyril Abiteboul has secured Genesis's commitment through the current regulation cycle. Both drivers will spend 2025 in intensive development, including simulator work and track testing, preparing for the 2026 race debut.
The program represents Genesis's first venture into sports car racing, with the team aiming to become competitive in the increasingly popular Hypercar category while managing expectations for their debut season.
