Formula E will conduct a 40-minute rookie practice session before the Jeddah E-Prix on Thursday, February 13, ahead of the season's third and fourth rounds. The session is exclusively for drivers who haven't previously competed in Formula E, following the successful Women's test session held in Jarama last November.

Each team must:

  • Nominate one driver
  • Assign a unique car number different from race entries
  • Confirm their driver no later than seven days before the test
  • Run only a single car (unlike the Women's test where teams could field two drivers)

Alberto Longo, Formula E co-Founder and chief championship officer, emphasizes this initiative's importance in developing future racing talent, including young women, through hands-on experience with the GEN3 Evo car.

Pablo Martino, FIA's head of Formula E, notes that many current Formula E stars gained their first experience through similar rookie sessions, making these opportunities crucial for the championship's growth and driver development.

The Jeddah event, relocated from Diriyah, will also introduce in-race charging, featuring mandatory 30-second pit stops that will provide drivers with 10% additional usable energy during one of the weekend's two races.
