Formula E Introduces Game-Changing Pit Boost Strategy with 30-Second Power Stops
Formula E will introduce Pit Boost at the upcoming Jeddah E-Prix, adding a strategic element where drivers can gain 10% more energy through mandatory 30-second pit stops.

The new feature allows teams to be more tactical with energy deployment throughout the 45-minute races, creating what Formula E co-founder Alberto Longo calls "a little bit of jeopardy." Teams can choose when to take the additional energy and how to use it, potentially affecting race outcomes significantly.
Key points about Pit Boost:
- 30-second mandatory pit stop
- Provides 10% additional energy
- Will be implemented at one race during each of the six doubleheader events
- Could be expanded to more races if successful
- Works alongside existing Attack Mode strategy
Andretti team principal Roger Griffiths notes that simulations show the second driver taking the charge might be at a slight disadvantage, and teams must coordinate Pit Boost with Attack Mode usage. Success will largely depend on how well teams execute the pit stop procedures.
The feature complements Attack Mode, which will remain a separate strategic element. Longo revealed plans to enhance Attack Mode in future seasons, making it "much faster" as part of Formula E's 10-15 year technical roadmap.
Looking ahead, Formula E may increase both the number of races featuring Pit Boost and the amount of energy provided. The technology could potentially deliver up to 25% extra energy in just 30 seconds, with charging rates reaching 800 kilowatts in future implementations.
This marks Formula E's first return to mandatory pit stops since Season 5 (2018-19), though with a significantly different approach focused on energy enhancement rather than car changes.
