Formula 1 Plans Additional Mandatory Pit Stops for Monaco Grand Prix
Formula 1 is considering increasing mandatory pit stops at the Monaco Grand Prix to enhance racing excitement. This proposal, discussed during the F1 Commission's first meeting of the year in London, aims to address the traditionally processional nature of the race.
Currently, drivers must make at least one pit stop and use two different slick tire compounds during the race. The narrow street circuit layout often results in lead drivers deliberately slowing the pack to prevent gaps from opening for pit stops.

According to the FIA statement, "The commission agreed to increase the numbers of mandatory pit stops in the race." However, Aston Martin team principal Any Cowell noted that discussions are ongoing, stating "It was discussed but no final agreement, so more work to be done."
Additional 2025 regulation changes include:
- Stricter front wing deflection tests from the Spanish Grand Prix
- Enhanced rear wing testing from season start
- Removal of gearbox usage restrictions due to improved reliability
The proposal will undergo further review by the Sporting Advisory Committee in the coming weeks.
