Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton emphasized the positive impact on job creation, highlighting opportunities for engineers and mechanics. Fernando Alonso expressed confidence in the project, noting the experienced personnel involved, including former Renault colleagues Nick Chester, Pat Symonds, and Rob White.
Younger drivers like Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly anticipate the expanded grid, with Leclerc particularly highlighting the increased opportunities for emerging talent. Gasly expects the additional cars to enhance racing action and entertainment.
Several current drivers are already positioning themselves for potential seats with the new team:
- Valtteri Bottas confirmed having preliminary talks with GM about 2026 opportunities
- Kevin Magnussen, who previously raced for Cadillac in IMSA, expressed interest based on his existing relationship with the manufacturer
- Zhou Guanyu, currently without a 2025 seat, sees the new team as a potential pathway back to F1
The expansion marks a significant milestone for F1, returning to a 22-car grid for the first time since 2016. The addition of GM, a major automotive manufacturer, has been widely viewed as strengthening the sport's competitive landscape and creating new opportunities across the paddock.
