Record Miata Entry Highlights Thrilling Race 2 at Apex
The second race of the Scottsdale Ferrari Apex Challenge series featured the largest-ever field of Mazda MX5 Cup cars, delivering intense competition throughout multiple classes.

Two race cars competing on track
In the MX5 Cup race, Tom Tait secured victory in his debut appearance, fighting back from fourth position after starting from pole. Lucas Barnett finished second following a dramatic Turn 7 pass on Joey Rainey in the penultimate lap. The championship remains tight with five drivers separated by just 13 points.
The event marked a milestone for Apex Motor Club with the completion of new tarmac, making it Arizona's longest circuit at 4.76 miles. The surface, laid by the same crew that worked on the Miami GP, promises exceptional racing conditions for future events.
In the Radical class, Chris McMurry dominated the Gold category with a flag-to-flag victory, followed by Andy Voelkel and Ralph Gilles. Ryan Fisher continued his strong form in the Silver class, claiming his second consecutive win.
The GT4 category provided dramatic racing, with Joey Rainey securing his seventh straight win after early leader Scott Dehlendorf faced mechanical issues. Matt Crandall impressed with second place in his Apex debut, while Joe Rainey completed the podium.
Time Attack saw defending champion Jeff Koning return to win, with Star Sawalqah and Bret Voelkel rounding out the podium positions.
