Extreme H plans to enable manufacturers to integrate their own hydrogen fuel cells into the Pioneer 25 race car, marking a significant shift from the single-make format of its predecessor series, Extreme E.

Technical director Mark Grain emphasizes this decision supports a "road-to-race-to-road" development cycle, allowing manufacturers to showcase their existing fuel cell technology in competitive racing environments. The series is working with the FIA to establish regulations that balance innovation with cost control.

Cost containment remains a priority, with manufacturers expected to use existing inventory rather than developing race-specific components. This approach aims to make participation accessible while still allowing for necessary engineering adaptations.

The series will implement controls on fuel cell energy output to ensure competitive racing, similar to fuel flow limits in Formula 1. This approach will validate fuel cell performance in demanding racing conditions while maintaining a level playing field among competitors.

Several leading automotive manufacturers with hydrogen fuel cell programs have already expressed interest in participating, with discussions continuing to build momentum. The series aims to demonstrate the capability and durability of hydrogen fuel cell technology in extreme racing conditions.
