EVgo to Install Tesla NACS Connectors Across Fast Charging Network
EVgo will deploy North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors across its fast-charging network in 2023, making its stations accessible to Tesla vehicles without adapters. The company stands out in the charging infrastructure landscape with 40% of its network consisting of Level 3 DC fast chargers, which provide rapid charging for long-distance travel.
This strategic expansion will enhance EVgo's position in the EV charging market, as Tesla owners represent a significant portion of electric vehicle drivers in North America. Level 3 fast chargers can replenish most of an EV's battery within 30-45 minutes, making them essential for highway travel and quick charging needs.
The addition of NACS connectors aligns with industry trends, following similar announcements from major automakers like Ford and GM, who have also adopted Tesla's charging standard. This standardization effort aims to simplify the charging experience and expand accessibility for all EV drivers.
EVgo customers will benefit from the expanded compatibility without any additional costs or membership changes. The company continues to maintain its existing CCS and CHAdeMO connectors alongside the new NACS deployment, ensuring comprehensive coverage for all EV models.
