EVgo individually names each of their 1400+ fast charging stations across America, replacing complex serial codes with friendly, memorable names. This unique approach makes it easier for customers to identify and remember their favorite charging locations while simplifying communication with customer support.

Each charger receives a personal name, like 'Demarcus' in Richmond (VA), 'Hector' in Schamburg (IL), and 'Sophia' in San Diego (CA). These names often carry special meaning or stories behind them. For example, 'Orly' in Oakland is named after an executive's daughter who questioned the logic of gas stations, embodying the forward-thinking spirit of electric vehicle adoption.

The naming initiative began in December 2017 when EVgo realized that their previous system of 10-character alphanumeric codes (like 'ATLB415AC2') was inefficient and user-unfriendly. The company actively involves its community in the naming process through social media contests, such as when customers voted between naming a charger after naturalists Lucille Clifton or Langston Hughes.

EVgo's network currently includes over 800 charging stations nationwide, strategically located near grocery stores, restaurants, and other convenient locations. The company plans to triple its number of public fast chargers in the coming years, continuing its mission to make EV charging more accessible and user-friendly.

The named chargers have become a point of pride for many users, who often take selfies when finding their namesake stations. This personal touch helps build a stronger connection between EVgo's charging network and its growing community of environmentally conscious drivers.

As America's largest public fast charging network, EVgo remains committed to expanding sustainable transportation infrastructure while maintaining its unique, customer-centric approach to service.
