Darren Smith Seeks Redemption at New Egypt's SDS Season Opener
Darren Smith, a Binghamton, NY competitor, looks to build on his impressive New Jersey racing record as he prepares for the upcoming Super DIRTcar Series event at New Egypt Speedway. Smith is the only driver with consecutive Series top-five finishes in New Jersey, securing fifth at Bridgeport Motorsports Park (2023) and second at New Egypt Speedway (2024).

Last year at New Egypt, Smith led for 40 laps before Anthony Perrego passed him on the final lap. "I can't tell you how many times I've went back and watched that race," Smith reflected. "Being your best finish on the Series, you can't be upset with it, but when you lead up until the last lap, that kind of sucks."
Smith enters the Power in the Pines event on March 29, 2025, with strong momentum from February's Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals, where he achieved three consecutive top-10 finishes. The unique 7/16-mile dirt track at New Egypt presents a level playing field, as many full-time drivers have limited experience there.
Coming off his best points finish (eighth in 2024), Smith is optimistic about his program's progression. "I think where our program is now with the cars and how we have things set up in the shop and me getting used to some of these tracks, we're only going to keep getting better," he said.
The Power in the Pines event at New Egypt Speedway marks the opening of the 2025 Super DIRTcar Series championship season, where Smith aims to secure both his third straight top-five finish in New Jersey and his first Series victory.
