Audi is set to take control of the current Stake (formerly Sauber) team in 2026, coinciding with F1's new regulations. General Motors plans to join as the 11th constructor through Cadillac, pending FIA approval.

"A new OEM joining Formula 1 demonstrates the platform's strength," says Döllner. "Competition is what we need, and it adds value to our project."

The German manufacturer recently secured additional funding through the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) in November 2024. According to Döllner, numerous investors expressed interest, but Qatar's conviction came after visiting their Hinwil facility and powertrain unit.

The QIA investment, effective January 2025, mirrors similar financial structures in other F1 teams. Like Cadillac's backing from billionaire Mark Walter, this investment positions Audi to compete at the front of the grid.

"Bringing in this strong partner is a model many teams follow," Döllner explains. "It's a necessary step to become one of the top teams. The capital injection strengthens our long-term commitment to Formula 1 without reducing Audi's involvement."
