Genesis Set to Begin Initial Engine Dyno Testing Phase
Genesis will soon begin its journey into top-tier sportscar racing with the GMR-001 LMDh prototype, starting with crucial engine dyno tests in the coming weeks.

The car will feature a twin-turbo V8 engine, derived from Hyundai's WRC inline-four unit. This choice was made to meet tight development timelines, as the project must be completed within 60 weeks for the 2026 FIA WEC Hypercar debut.
Technical director François-Xavier Demaison explained that using the WRC engine as a base reduces development risks and speeds up the validation process. The 3.2-liter V8 configuration was chosen over a V6 for reliability, despite weight considerations.
Key development milestones include:
- Engine dyno testing: Beginning February 2025
- Le Castellet race base opening: Q2 2025
- Track testing: Q3 2025
- Homologation: End of 2025
- GTP debut: 2027
The program will benefit from ORECA's proven LMDh spine and common hybrid system, allowing Genesis to focus on engine development and software integration. Testing will primarily occur in Europe, with U.S. circuit testing planned after homologation.
Genesis Magma Racing will also run an LMP2 campaign in the European Le Mans Series with IDEC Sport to gain experience while developing the GMR-001. The team is currently recruiting experienced staff from WEC and Formula One backgrounds to strengthen its technical capabilities.
