The Corvette features a cutting-edge Bosch EBS hand control system developed by Pratt Miller, which Wickens describes as feeling naturally integrated into the car. He notes significant improvements in braking sensation compared to his previous TCR racing experience.

Using his home simulator for preparation, Wickens has been developing his hand control techniques, particularly focusing on throttle application. He employs a unique driving style, using his left hand for 98% of throttle control while managing gear shifts with both hands.

The transition to a rear-wheel-drive GT3 car presents new challenges compared to the front-wheel-drive TCR vehicles he's been racing. Wickens is working to master throttle control during oversteer moments and adapt to the car's traction control system.

Tommy Milner, Corvette Racing factory driver, will co-drive with Wickens at Long Beach. The partnership with DXDT Racing, Pratt Miller, Bosch, and General Motors has made this return possible, with the hand control system designed to be adaptable to various race cars.

Wickens sees this as a crucial step in his post-injury racing career, aiming for a long-term presence in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. His immediate goals include:

  • Securing a full-time position for 2026
  • Competing for race wins and podiums
  • Establishing himself as a regular competitor in the series

The adaptive control system's success could have broader implications, potentially improving accessibility in civilian road vehicles. Wickens will make his debut at the Long Beach street circuit, marking his return to top-level motorsport competition.
