Volkswagen ID Buzz Review: A Retro-Cool Electric Family Van That Actually Works
The Volkswagen ID Buzz combines retro-inspired styling with modern electric practicality, offering a unique take on the family MPV segment. Its design pays homage to the iconic 1960s VW bus while incorporating contemporary features and electric technology.
Space and practicality are the ID Buzz's strongest attributes. The interior boasts 1,121 liters of boot space - significantly more than competitors like the Tesla Model Y (971 liters). Available in five, six, or seven-seat configurations, it offers exceptional passenger room with sliding rear seats for flexible space management.

The elevated driving position provides excellent visibility, making the large vehicle surprisingly manageable in urban environments. The interior features light, airy materials and extensive glazing, though some plastics feel below par for a vehicle starting at £60,000.

Performance-wise, the standard 286hp rear-wheel-drive model offers the best balance of power and range. While a GTX version with 340hp is available, its higher price point doesn't justify the minimal performance gains. The standard model achieves 293 miles of range, though this drops to around 230 miles during 70mph motorway cruising with the 86kWh battery.

Comfort is prioritized with well-damped suspension and supportive seats ideal for long journeys. The only significant drawbacks are the occasionally glitchy infotainment system and the premium price point.

Despite these minor issues, the ID Buzz successfully delivers both style and substance as a practical family vehicle, combining unique aesthetics with genuine utility and comfort.
