The partnership combines Risi's technical expertise with DragonSpeed's proven success across various motorsport disciplines. DragonSpeed receives mechanical and engineering support from Risi while maintaining its own operational independence under Elton Julian's leadership.
The No. 81 Ferrari 296 GT3, the sole GTD PRO entry among Ferrari's eight-car contingent, features an all-star driver lineup including Rigon, Miguel Molina, Thomas Neubauer, and Albert Costa – the latter confirmed as DragonSpeed's full-time driver.
New IMSA race procedures will help separate GTD PRO and GTD classes during competition, eliminating unnecessary inter-class battles that previously cost valuable race time. This change allows teams to focus on their respective class competitions and makes the racing clearer for viewers to follow.
Despite showing promising teamwork and car development during practice sessions, the Ferrari teams face tough competition. While practice times suggest an uphill battle for victory, Rigon and the team remain focused on maximizing their performance and preparing for the full season ahead.
The collaboration represents a significant step for DragonSpeed's first full-time GT entry, with both team and drivers committed to building on their strong foundation throughout the season. While acknowledging the challenges ahead, they maintain their goal of reaching victory lane at this prestigious 24-hour endurance race.
