The 22-year-old New Zealander, who has competed in 11 grands prix over the past two seasons, was chosen over Yuki Tsunoda for the coveted seat alongside Max Verstappen.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner praised Lawson's performances during his stints with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls, highlighting his racing ability and strong results. The promotion continues Red Bull's tradition of developing talent through their Junior Program, following successful predecessors like Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

"To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing Driver is a lifelong dream for me," said Lawson, who credits his recent six-race stint replacing Daniel Ricciardo at RB as crucial preparation for this opportunity. He expressed enthusiasm about learning from his future teammate, four-time champion Max Verstappen.

The move is expected to create an opening at RB for Formula 2 runner-up Isack Hadjar, who will likely partner with Yuki Tsunoda. Despite Tsunoda's experience of 87 grands prix over four seasons, he was not selected for the Red Bull Racing seat.
