Rea Tops Superbike Testing Times as Yamaha Partnership Shows Promise
Jonathan Rea, six-time World Superbike champion and Pata Prometeon Yamaha rider, led recent testing at Spain's Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto, posting the fastest time of 1m53.058s in wet conditions while familiarizing himself with the 2025 Yamaha YZF-R1.

After a challenging 2024 season where he finished 13th overall with just one podium finish, Rea has undergone significant changes, including bringing in longtime colleague Oriol Pallares as his new crew chief. This marked his first winless season in his 18-year career following his departure from Kawasaki, where he won six consecutive WorldSBK Championships (2015-2020).
The Yamaha team has implemented comprehensive upgrades for 2025, focusing on electronics, acceleration, power, and chassis improvements. Rea expressed optimism about these developments, stating, "Everyone has made a huge effort this off-season."

With 119 wins and 263 podium finishes in his career, Rea remains determined to return to winning form. "I'm still so motivated to try and make a nice story," he said, dismissing retirement talks. "I can't think of my life without racing in it."
The Northern Irish racer, who began his Superbike World Championship journey in 2009 with HANNspree Ten Kate Honda, looks forward to the season opener at Phillip Island, Australia, in late February. He emphasizes that while the championship features many talented riders and manufacturers, his focus is on becoming competitive again and fighting at the front of the pack.
