Qatar's sovereign wealth fund QIA has secured a significant minority stake in Sauber Holding AG, the future Audi Formula 1 team. The investment will be finalized by Q2 2025, following Audi's complete takeover of Sauber in January.

This strategic partnership brings substantial capital that will boost infrastructure and recruitment efforts. QIA, already a stakeholder in Audi's parent company Volkswagen Group, will gain a seat on the board.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner emphasized that QIA's investment demonstrates confidence in the F1 project and will accelerate the team's development at both Hinwil and Neuburg facilities ahead of their 2026 entry.

Key points about the deal:

  • QIA's investment was part of Audi's long-term strategy
  • The project wasn't at risk without external investment
  • Partnership model follows successful examples from other F1 teams
  • Audi aims to become a top team in Formula 1

Döllner clarified that while manufacturers could compete independently in F1, partnering with strong investors represents a more strategic approach. The team currently has no immediate plans to seek additional partners, focusing on maximizing the potential of the QIA collaboration.
