The reigning Formula E champion's car flipped into the outside wall at Turn 6 following contact with Jaguar TCS Racing's Nick Cassidy, who had sustained prior damage from an incident with Maxilian Guenther.
While Wehrlein was taken to a local hospital for precautionary checks, Porsche confirmed his well-being: "It is with huge relief that we can confirm that Pascal is okay after the on-track incident in race one of the new season."
Teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, who finished second in the race, emphasized the importance of safety in motorsport: "It's a reminder that our sport is dangerous and that we have to race with respect amongst everyone. Our cars are getting faster, some of these tracks are tight and bumpy. I'm glad that he's okay and that the safety of these cars is very good."
The incident highlights both the inherent risks in Formula E racing and the effectiveness of modern safety measures in protecting drivers during high-speed accidents.
