The Australian driver, who initially joined McLaren in 2023 with a contract through 2026, receives this extension ahead of his home Grand Prix. The new deal solidifies McLaren's driver lineup alongside Lando Norris, who signed his own long-term extension 12 months ago.
"It's a great feeling knowing that I'm part of McLaren's long-term vision," says Piastri. "The team had the belief in me when we signed in 2022, and the journey we've gone on over the past two seasons to help return McLaren to the very top of the sport has been incredible."
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown considers their driver pairing the strongest on the grid, praising Piastri's talent and work ethic. "He was absolutely fundamental in adding to our legacy with the 2024 Constructors' Championship last season," Brown notes.
Team Principal Andrea Stella emphasizes the extension reflects their shared ambition for future championships. "Alongside Lando, we have what we need locked in for the long term to keep pushing forward," Stella states, highlighting Piastri's talent, determination, and positive contribution to team culture.
Piastri enters his home race as a title favorite, marking a significant milestone in McLaren's continuing pursuit of Formula 1 success.
