A pioneer in the 2025 Formula 1 season, McLaren unveiled its MCL39 at Silverstone, making the first move among all teams. The reigning constructors' champions showcased their new car in a camouflage livery during a limited 200km promotional filming day.

Team principal Andrea Stella emphasized the innovative approach taken with the MCL39, highlighting two main areas of improvement:

  • Enhanced aerodynamic efficiency
  • Better tire interaction for improved long-run pace

The team maintains an aggressive development strategy, planning updates for early season races. This approach aims to preserve their competitive edge in a tight field where four teams could win on any given weekend.

Both drivers enter 2025 with high expectations:

Lando Norris embraces the increased pressure, stating: "Those moments I thrive on are the ones where there is more pressure, there is more nerves — I enjoy that. Those are the moments I enjoy the most and the moments that actually turn me into a better driver."

Oscar Piastri, focused on challenging Max Verstappen, emphasizes a strategic approach: "You have to be smart, and you have to position the car well, and also think of the long game sometimes."

Unlike 2024, when the team had to play catch-up, McLaren aims to be competitive from the season's start. The MCL39 running at Silverstone closely represents the final version that will appear at the Bahrain test, demonstrating McLaren's commitment to maintaining their championship momentum while pushing innovation boundaries.

The team faces a crucial balancing act: defending their constructors' title while supporting both drivers' championship ambitions, particularly against the formidable threat of Max Verstappen and his competitors.
