Matt Meade has announced he'll race under the name Matt Smith starting in the 2025 season. The Triangle, N.Y., driver, who regularly competes at Brewerton Speedway and Thunder Mountain Speedway, is making this change to clarify his family connection to Super DIRTcar Series racer Darren Smith and their father, former Southern Tire standout Jeremy Smith.

"I work with my dad at the family business, and I'm part of the business and racing journey," Smith explained. "Some think I'm just a friend of Darren's. The people close know the deal, but I didn't realize how many people didn't know. If I ever have kids of my own, I want them to have my last name."

Known by the nickname "Fast Matt," Smith will expand his racing schedule in 2025. Beyond his regular appearances at Brewerton and Thunder Mountain, he plans to compete in several big-block races with the Jeremy Smith Racing No. 28 team.

His 2025 schedule includes potential races at All-Tech in Florida, plus select big-block shows at venues like Canandaigua and Weedsport. "We do this for fun, not for a living," Smith noted. "We want to be competitive and represent our sponsors and supporters the right way."

Smith's 2025 campaign will commence in February, marking a new chapter in his racing career under his family name.
