Matt Covington, a veteran Sprint Car racer from Glenpool, OK, is setting his sights on his first American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) National Tour championship in 2025 after 12 years of competition.

The 34-year-old driver has consistently finished in the top five throughout his career, including multiple third-place finishes and a runner-up position to Jason Martin in 2023. Despite being one of only two drivers to qualify for 31 of 32 main events and achieving 29 top-10 finishes last season, Covington went winless for the first time since 2016.

"We're good at consistency," Covington explains. "We need to win five or six races while maintaining that consistency to be championship contenders. Winning one to three races isn't enough anymore."

Following recent arm surgery in November, Covington feels mentally and physically prepared for the new season. He emphasizes the importance of mental focus in Sprint Car racing, stating, "It's 90 percent a mind game out there."

Covington welcomes the recent changes under World Racing Group's ownership, particularly noting the enhanced media presence and support staff. He begins his 13th full-time season at Volusia Speedway Park during the Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals from January 30 to February 1.

The veteran driver's experience and consistent performance make him a strong contender for the 2025 ASCS National Tour championship and the new Emmett Hahn Trophy, representing the nation's premier 360 Sprint Car organization.
