Major Crash at Rolex 24: Six Cars Involved in Dramatic Daytona Restart Incident

A massive multi-car crash marked the eighth hour of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, involving six cars during the restart after a yellow flag period.

The incident began when Louis Deletraz lost control of the No. 40 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac exiting Turn 2, hitting the barrier and bouncing back into traffic. Nick Boulle and Chris Cumming became involved, hitting both Deletraz and each other. Jordan Pepper's Lamborghini and Max Hesse's BMW also collided while trying to avoid the initial crash. All drivers walked away uninjured.

After a 25-minute full course yellow, racing resumed with the following leaders:

  • Nick Tandy (No. 7 Porsche Penske)
  • Tom Blomqvist (No. 60 Meyer Shank Acura)

LMP2 Class:

  • Paul Di Resta (No. 22 United Autosports USA)
  • Paul-Loup Chatin (No. 18 ERA Motorsport)
  • Jonny Edgar (No. 99 AO Racing)

GTD PRO Class:

  • Frederic Vervisch (No. 65 Ford Mustang)
  • Fabian Schiller (No. 69 GetSpeed Mercedes-AMG)
  • Mike Rockenfeller (No. 64 Ford Mustang)

GTD Class:

  • Franck Perera (No. 78 Lamborghini)
  • Mattia Drudi (No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin)
  • Anthony McIntosh (No. 19 Van der Steur Racing Aston Martin)

Notable incidents include Sheldon van der Linde's spin in Turn 2 after contact with Neel Jani, and Heart of Racing's No. 007 GTD PRO car's withdrawal due to a lost wheel while running in the top five.
