Maini, a Formula 2 race winner, will return to Mahindra Racing where he previously served as test and reserve driver. His strong performance at last year's Berlin rookie test, where he finished fifth overall, made him an obvious choice for the team. He expressed excitement about testing the new GEN3 Evo car and building on his previous experience with the team.
O'Sullivan will make his Formula E debut with Envision Racing as part of his new role as the team's simulator driver. The British driver, who secured wins in Formula 2 last year at Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps, will compete in Japan's Super Formula series this season.
The rookie session will take place on Thursday, February 13, ahead of the Jeddah doubleheader weekend. The event will use a modified layout of the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, known for hosting Formula 1 races. Each of Formula E's 11 teams must run one car in this session, marking the second test of GEN3 Evo cars for non-regular drivers following the female driver test in Jarama, Spain last November.
Mahindra Racing CEO Frederic Bertrand praised Maini's work ethic and skills, while Envision Racing's Sylvain Filippi expressed confidence in O'Sullivan's ability to adapt to Formula E.
