Katherine Legge Aims to Keep Things Simple in First NASCAR Cup Series Start at Phoenix
Katherine Legge aims for a measured approach in her NASCAR Cup Series debut at Phoenix Raceway, focusing on completing all 312 laps of her first major oval race experience.

Her primary goals include minimizing mistakes, avoiding trouble, and demonstrating respect for fellow competitors. Having only previous NASCAR experience at Richmond's shorter track, Legge acknowledges the learning curve ahead at Phoenix's one-mile oval.
"I want to stay out of trouble, show respect, and prove that I belong," says Legge, setting realistic expectations for her debut. "If I finish anything but last, it would be a win for us."
The opportunity with Live Fast Motorsports, a part-time single-car team owned by B.J. and Jessica McLeod, came together quickly in just 10 days. While Legge would have preferred debuting at Circuit of The Americas' road course, NASCAR approved her for Phoenix given its shorter oval configuration.
To prepare, Legge has leveraged significant support from the NASCAR community:
- Completed simulator work with Chevrolet
- Conducted pit stop practice at Hendrick Motorsports
- Received additional support from Richard Childress Racing and Kaulig Racing
Despite hoping to maintain a low profile for her debut, Legge acknowledges the timing coinciding with Women's History Month has brought additional attention. "There is no way I'm flying under radar," she admits, embracing the spotlight while maintaining focus on her performance goals.
