Inside MX-5 Cup: Noah Harmon Wins 2024 Scholarship Shootout, Secures Full-Season Ride
Noah Harmon, an 18-year-old racing talent from Toronto, has secured the prestigious Mazda MX-5 Cup Scholarship Shootout's top prize, earning a fully funded ride for the 2025 season.

Racing driver celebrates with trophy
Harmon strategically prepared for this victory by participating in three Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin rounds in 2024, gaining valuable experience with the MX-5 Cup race car. His racing journey began unconventionally at age 14 with rental karts, quickly progressing to competitive karting in Florida and national events.
After just two seasons of karting, Harmon transitioned to race cars through the Lucas Oil Racing School. He then advanced to Spec Miata racing with BSI in 2023, followed by competing in Spec MX-5 with Greenwood Motorsports in 2024. His notable achievements include a fourth-place finish in MX-5 Cup and a second-place finish at the 2024 SCCA National Championship Runoffs.
Key factors in Harmon's Shootout victory:
- Previous Shootout experience from 2023
- Extensive MX-5 Cup car knowledge
- Strategic participation in multiple racing disciplines
- Support from Street Side Classics enabling crucial testing time
The 2025 season will mark Harmon's first full championship campaign, representing a significant milestone in his racing career. His victory is particularly meaningful as it represents the culmination of three years of dedicated effort toward winning the Shootout.
Harmon will begin his fully-funded season at Daytona International Speedway in January, marking a significant step forward in his aspiring sports car racing career.
