Harmon strategically prepared for this victory by participating in three Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup Presented by Michelin rounds in 2024, gaining valuable experience with the MX-5 Cup race car.

His racing journey began unconventionally at age 14 with rental karts, progressing rapidly through competitive karting in Florida from 2020 to 2021. Despite his late start compared to peers, Harmon quickly advanced to race cars through the Lucas Oil Racing School and later competed in Spec Miata and Spec MX-5.

Notable achievements include:

  • Fourth-place finish in MX-5 Cup at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta
  • Second-place finish in Spec MX-5 class at the 2024 SCCA National Championship Runoffs
  • Successful transition from karting to race cars in just two seasons

The 2025 season will mark Harmon's first full championship campaign, presenting new challenges in consistency and championship point management. His victory represents not just personal achievement but also validates three years of dedicated effort toward winning the Shootout.

Support from Street Side Classics' Bob and Donna Mueller proved crucial, enabling vital testing time in the MX-5 Cup car. Harmon will begin his fully-funded season at Daytona International Speedway in January, marking a significant step toward his professional sports car racing career.
