Indy NXT Director Richard Buck Departs Penske Entertainment Ahead of Season Opener
Penske Entertainment has parted ways with Indy NXT director Richard Buck just days before the season opener in St. Petersburg. Buck, a former NASCAR executive who was appointed on December 10, was released from his position after a brief tenure.
The change comes following reports of growing disconnect between Buck and NXT team owners, despite his respected status in motorsports. Buck had replaced Levi Jones, who previously led the series' revitalization through 2024.

During the transition, IndyCar Series president Doug Boles and Jason Penix, Indianapolis Motor Speedway's VP of event and track operations, will temporarily oversee series operations. Penix brings valuable experience from his previous leadership role in Indy Lights, NXT's predecessor program.
Penske Entertainment, which conducted an extensive search before hiring Buck, now has the opportunity to revisit its candidate pool to find a new series director. The rest of Indy NXT's operations team remains unchanged as the season approaches.
